Total Malawi helps schools fight COVID-19

Total Malawi Limited (TML) donated 10,000 face masks on 6th October 2020 to the District Education Office which manages all the primary and secondary schools in Blantyre district.

Salamata Ball, Managing Director for Total Malawi, handed over the donation at a ceremony held at Kanjedza Primary School. In her speech she explained that the company decided to donate masks, as a measure intended to help keep students safe from the pandemic, following the decision made by the Malawi Government to reopen schools.

The items were received by the District Education Manager Mrs. Anne Kaliu who on behalf of the District Education Office (DEO) expressed delight and gratitude. Kaliu noted that most of the students in her schools come from homes that cannot afford to provide masks to the students and the masks would help keep students in school.

“We should not be misled [by information that says] cases are going down, the risk is still there and this donation has come at the very right time especially as we are having all classes opened on 12th October. The donation will help us plan better to ensure that we protect against COVID-19 alongside other safety practices like washing hands and observing social distance,” she said.

The masks will be distributed to several schools by the DEO based on need. TML also took the opportunity to donate a scholar patrol kit to students at the school to help them use the road that passes by their school safely.
